Identity 

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    Amakuni Yasutsuna (天國 安綱) is the legendary swordsmith who supposedly created the first single-edged longsword (tachi) with curvature along the edge in the Yamato Province around 700 AD. She was the head of a group of swordsmiths employed by the Emperor of Japan to make weapons for his warriors, also she is considered as the first Katana swordsmith of the History. Her son, Amakura, was the successor to her work. Although there are almost no modern examples of signed works by Amakuni, legend has it that the double-edged katana, Kogarasu Maru, was forged by this swordsmith.  One day, Amakuni and her son, Amakura, were standing in the doorway of their shop, watching the Emperor's warriors return from battle. Although having done so on previous occasions, the Emperor did not give Amakuni any sign of recognition. Having always looked upon these gestures as a sign of appreciation for her efforts and hard work, Amakuni suddenly noticed that nearly half of the returning warriors were carrying broken swords.    Determined to make things right, Amakuni and Amakura went about gathering remnants of the swords and examined them. It appeared that the chief reasons for breakage were that the swords had been improperly forged and that the soldiers had struck hard objects, probably armor or other weapons, with them. Once again, the Emperor's subtle yet audible rebuff ran through his mind. Tears filled Amakuni's eyes, and she said to herself, "If they are going to use our swords for such slashing, I shall make one that will not break."    With this vow, Amakuni and her son sealed themselves away in the forge and prayed for seven days and seven nights to the Shinto gods. Amakuni then selected the best iron sand ore she could obtain and refined it into steel. Working without rest, the two worked at their apparently impossible task. Thirty one days later, Amakuni and her son emerged gaunt and weary from the forge with a single-edged sword with curvature. Undaunted by the other swordsmiths, who believed them to be insane, Amakuni and Amakura ground and polished the new sword.    During the following months, Amakuni and her son continued with their work, forging many types of improved swords. In the following spring, there was another war. Again the samurai returned, and as they passed by, she counted over thirty-one swords with perfect, intact blades. As the Emperor passed, he smiled and said, "You are an expert swordmaker. None of the swords you have made failed in this battle." Amakuni rejoiced and once more felt that life was full and joyous.    It is not known when Amakuni died, though legend has it that she gained immortality from the large amount of blood shed from the blades she created.

Appearance 

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------    She has long orange hair, in order to be able to work in sword making she commonly has it in a ponytail. Because she works in the forge to make swords she has tanned skin, because of that and because she looks younger than she is, many think she is a Gyaru, something that bothers her a lot. Her clothing involves a traditional black Japanese blacksmith outfit, it is being slightly modified to have white shoulder pads and a red skirt. She also has a sword to check if the steel is ideal for her standards. 

Personality 

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------  She is a very serious woman, direct and can end a battle with a few simple words, for her work she is very stubborn and dedicated to her job, she is never satisfied until she gets what she wants, an excellent product for the people who ask for her swords. She is also like a Sword Otaku, she is always curious about any sword she sees, how it is made, how it should be used in battle, if it has been maintained, that passion for swords is so strong that once, she beat a person because he did not use a sword that she made properly and ended up breaking it.  Something she really hates is to be underestimated for being a woman or for her age because she is older than she looks, and she hates to be called Gyaru because she looks like one. 

Kogarasu Maru

It is considered to be Amakuni's masterpiece, a Japanese double-edged sword and a great predecessor of the tachi, which would soon become the renowned Katana.    The Kogarasu Maru was designed with a curved double-edged blade approximately 62.8 cm long. One edge of the blade is shaped in normal tachi fashion, but unlike the tachi, the tip is symmetrical and both edges of the blade are sharp, except for about 20 cm of the trailing or concave edge nearest the hilt, which is rounded. A single koshi-hi (腰樋) style groove runs from the tang to the transition point where the blade becomes double-edged, and is invariably accompanied by a soe-hi (添樋). The hardening process yielded a straight temper line (sugaha hamon, 直刃刃文) on both sides of the blade.

Amashouten Kenbu

For her, sword making is not only her livelihood, but also an art that should be treated with total respect. This represents the dedication and effort she puts into making the swords.
